E-Teacher Program, Assessment
This course is designed to familiarize EFL teachers with a wide variety of formal and informal English language assessment tools and help them become competent in evaluating assessment information as well as selecting and developing appropriate English assessments for their own teaching situations and goals. It is supported by the U.S. Department of State, Office of English Language Programs and developed and taught by the Indiana University.
E-Teacher Program, Critical Thinking Skills
This is a 10-week course for EFL educators on integrating Critical Thinking Skills into the language classroom. The focus is on project work. It is supported by the U.S. Department of State, Office of English Language Programs and developed and taught by the University of Oregon, American English Institute.
E-Teacher Program, English for Law
This course provides participants with an extensive overview of the concepts behind the legal system in the United States and gives them a framework for teaching English to professionals in the legal field by introducing the best current practices in the English for Specific Purposes (ESP) field. It is supported by the U.S. Department of State, Office of English Language Programs and developed and taught by Nashville State Community College and the University of Memphis.
E-Teacher Program, Teaching Business English
This course provides 45 hours of instruction in which teaching business English and the global nature of business are addressed using an integrated skills approach, primarily focusing on productive skills (i.e., business writing and speaking) and requiring receptive skills (i.e., particularly reading about business English teaching). This course is supported by the U.S. Department of State, Office of English Language Programs and developed and taught by the University of South Carolina.
E-Teacher Program, Young Learners
The English Language Center (ELC) is honored to be collaborating with the Office of English Language Programs of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (U.S. Department of State) to offer a professional development program to ESL educators around the world via the internet.This new program draws on a long-established tradition at UMBC in the area of ESOL Professional Training and working with teachers around the world. This program will aid teachers in mastering their skills using a variety of modern methods and techniques.
Pilot Online Course with "Shaping the Way We Teach English" Materials
The U.S. Department of State Office of English Language Programs, in cooperation with the University of Oregon's American English Institute, is pleased to offer this pilot online course for EFL educators Fall 2006. Modules from the new "Shaping the Way We Teach English" product form the basis for observations, interactions, discussions, and teaching plans. Teams of EFL educators from15 countries throughout the Middle East, Near East and Central Asia are cooperating in this innovative online project.

Africa Online: Using Web Resources to Develop Content-Based Materials course ran from September-December 2001 and highlighted the thematic priorities in sub-Saharan Africa: (1) HIV/AIDS awareness, (2) Entrepreneurship, and (3) Civics Education.
Thai Videoconferencing Series
This 10-part series ran for three years. It was designed for EFL educators in Thailand but is freely available as a tutorial to anyone. It contains lectures, readings, discussion questions and project examples. It was supported by the U.S. Embassy Bangkok, Public Affairs, Office of English Language Programs and by the Royal Thai Distance Learning Foundation; and, developed and taught by the University of Oregon, American English Institute.
