Office of English Language Programs: Opportunities for U.S. Teachers
The Office of English Language Programs offers two vehicles through which experienced TEFL/TESL professionals can work and provide services abroad. At a minimum both programs require candidates to meet the following requirements:
- Candidates must be U.S. citizens.
- Candidates must hold at least a Master's degree in TEFL or TESL.
- English Language Specialist Program
http://exchanges.state.gov/education/engteaching/specialists.htm The English Language (EL) Specialist Program recruits United States academics in the fields of TEFL/TESL and Applied Linguistics for assignments abroad lasting two to six weeks. Specialist assignments may include curriculum projects, teacher-training seminars, and textbook development. To be eligible for consideration, candidates must have overseas and teacher training experience.
- English Language Fellow Program
http://exchanges.state.gov/education/engteaching/fellows.htm The English Language Fellow Program recruits teachers and teacher trainers in the fields of TEFL/TESL for ten-month fellowships to overseas academic institutions. Junior Fellows focus on teaching in academic institutions, while Senior Fellows focus on teacher training activities.
